This is a point that I can easily relate to my students with, and yet never really focused on. I speak the dominating second language in my area (Spanish), but when help others who learned to speak spanish first, I focus more on making them feel comfortable rather than using my own second language to help them relate to me and understand that it took a while for me to be where I am now. <br /><br />Aside form that insight, your analogies to understanding fashion clothing are perfect.
